Specialty Transformers for Industry
Henan Kaibeite Transformer Co., Ltd. – Your reliable partner for custom‑built rectifier and furnace transformers.
Overview
Many industrial processes require more than standard power distribution. For applications such as electrochemical refining, DC traction, steel melting, or ferroalloy production, you need specialty transformers designed for non‑sinusoidal currents, extreme overloads, and harsh operating conditions.
Kaibeite offers two main families of specialty transformers: Rectifier Transformers (for AC/DC conversion) and Furnace Transformers (for electric melting and heating). Both are fully customizable in voltage, capacity, cooling method, and accessories.
1. Rectifier Transformer – Built for AC/DC Conversion
Rectifier transformers supply power to rectifier systems, converting AC to DC for heavy‑duty industrial loads.
Key Features
Non‑sinusoidal duty ready – Optimized to handle harmonic currents generated by rectifiers, reducing additional losses and preventing local overheating.
DC bias suppression – Special magnetic circuit design prevents core saturation caused by DC components, ensuring quiet and stable operation.
High short‑circuit withstand capability – Reinforced winding structures to withstand sudden short‑circuit shocks.
Flexible phase‑shift configurations – Available for 6‑pulse, 12‑pulse, 24‑pulse, etc., to minimize harmonic injection into the grid.
Low voltage, high current output – Designed for outputs from tens of volts up to 1,500V, with currents up to tens of thousands of amperes.
Typical Applications
Electrochemical processes (aluminium smelting, chlor‑alkali, copper foil)
DC traction power supply for urban rail transit
HVDC converter stations
Steel rolling mills and mine hoists
Technical Parameters (example)
Parameter Range
Rated power 100 kVA – 20,000 kVA
HV voltage 6 kV – 35 kV
LV voltage 0.2 kV – 1.5 kV (customizable)
Vector group Dyn11, Yd5, Yd7, etc.
Pulse number 6, 12, 18, 24
Cooling ONAN / ONAF
2. Furnace Transformer – Designed for Extreme Melting Conditions
Furnace transformers supply power to electric arc furnaces (EAF), ladle furnaces (LF), submerged arc furnaces (SAF), and resistance furnaces. They are built to withstand severe load fluctuations and frequent short‑circuit impacts.
Key Features
High overload capacity – Engineered for short‑term overloads, typically 20% for 2 hours, to meet the high power demand during the melting period.
Wide on‑load tap‑changing range – Equipped with OLTC to achieve multi‑step voltage regulation , adapting to different process stages (melting, refining, holding).
Extreme mechanical strength – Reinforced winding supports and clamping structures to withstand repetitive short‑circuit forces and arc‑striking shocks.
Special LV design – LV windings made of solid copper plates or copper foil to carry extremely high currents (thousands to tens of thousands of amperes).
Optimized leakage reactance – Proper impedance selection (usually 5‑10%) to balance power transfer and fault current limitation.
Typical Applications
Electric arc furnace steelmaking (carbon steel, special steel)
Submerged arc furnace for ferroalloys, silicon, calcium carbide
Ladle refining furnace (LF)
Resistance furnace heat treatment, powder metallurgy
Technical Parameters (example)
Parameter Range
Rated power 500 kVA – 25,000 kVA
HV voltage 6 kV – 35 kV
LV voltage 50 V – 800 V (customizable)
Tap changer On‑load (OLTC)
Cooling ONAN / ONAF / OFWF
Overload capacity 20% for 2 hours (typical)
